Answers across your work.
Your index stays yours.

Smara indexes your mail, calendar and files on the device you’re using and answers questions across all of it. Answering happens in Smara Cloud, so the text behind each answer leaves the device — and nothing else does.

The trade-off

What leaves your device, and what doesn’t.

Smara answers in the cloud, so some of your text has to go there. Here is exactly which text, where it goes, and what happens to it afterwards.

What’s sent

Nothing, until you press “Agree and Activate” (on a phone, “Allow Smara Cloud”) on Smara’s consent screen. Then, the text Smara needs for each request, plus your question. It can include email bodies and threads, calendar events (title, time, attendees, invite description or agenda), document and file excerpts, chat messages, and notes, reminders and contacts if connected. It goes over TLS to Smara Cloud, which runs on Cloudflare.

What’s kept: no content

Smara Cloud never logs request content, and AI Gateway logging is off on every request. Logs hold only the first 8 characters of your license hash, the device ID, event type, status and token counts (no IP address, content, name or email) for 7 days. The model holds each request in memory only for the call and doesn’t train on it. Full retention table.

What never leaves

Your knowledge graph. Smara builds and searches it on the device itself, and no index, embedding or copy of it is ever uploaded — each device keeps its own, and nothing syncs between them. Smara only ever sends the text behind the answer you asked for.

Smara Cloud is api.usesmara.ai. If your organization’s policy doesn’t allow work data to be processed in the cloud, Smara isn’t the right fit today — on-device inference is on the roadmap, not shipping. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

The fine print, up front.

Your license key activates Smara on up to 3 devices, and they share one allowance. On Mac, Smara needs Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 15.1 or later; Intel Macs aren’t supported.

No account

There’s nothing to sign up for. After checkout you get a license key by email; paste it into Smara under Settings → Plan and click Activate.

Billing by Lemon Squeezy

Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record, which means it is the seller. It handles checkout, payment and tax, and Smara never sees your card details.

Free trial, then cancel anytime

Smara starts with a 14-day free trial, one per customer. A card is required at checkout, and you’re charged $9.99 a month when the trial ends unless you cancel first. Manage or cancel at usesmara.ai/account; answering stops at the end of the billing period. See the Terms.
